The bit about a lawyer being stopped from entering a music hall in the US because its facial recognition system picked up that she's part of a law company that's suing them is even crazier than I thought.
The law company isn't suing the music hall - it's suing a restaurant, in another state, which is owned by the hall's parent company MSG Entertainment. MSG gone ahead and harvested photos of all the lawyers in the firm and fed it to an image recognition system to ban them from every MSG Entertainment owned location.
People always tell me that if you've got nothing to hide then you've got nothing to fear. She's got nothing to hide and they still went after her.
If this doesn't start making people worried about facial recognition then there's serious trouble coming.

I prefer the simplicity and intuitivety of Nano, and no learning curve.
Sadly, VI commands are ingrained in my brain from years of abuse.

I just wish there was some sort of -y command line option to automatically respond affirmatively when I’m asked if I’m a deity. Maybe I need to build my own extension for it.

@capy Generally it's the Phonetician that poses more of an issue. Many less experienced users never change deity from the default, but they lose access to a lot of the editor's more powerful features this way.

for the people without without η and λ on their keyboard, g+ and g- are other ways to move forward and backward in time (try it! do and undo a few actions, do new things, and then navigate through time!)

Vim is like Street Fighter II. You can use it without knowing every move.
The cool thing about vim is you don’t need to learn too many of its commands to be useful. There are a lot of arcane commands that are really useful if you know them, but not at all essential.

The easiest way to make a secure password is to take away the mouse and all information sources, and ask someone who doesn't know Vim to close it.

The thing to do is set up links on your profile, to your official web site, and it have a link back with rel="me". That allows a "verified" link, and is way simpler than a blue tick (unless you have $8 spare). Google it. Helped avoid the fakers.

It's absolutely true. Those 3 virtues are helpful in this field. Laziness leads to a relentless pursuit of automation of manual tasks. Impatience leads to extreme optimization of code for speed. Hubris is what propels great programmers forward; always jumping into the deep end of what they don't know trusting that they'll learn to swim before they drown.
The Bad Management Corollary: we do these things not because they are easy, but because someone in management thought they were easy and has already committed us to a release date, feature set and skeleton crew of coders.

succes inderdaad aan alle admins in de zoektocht naar een evenwichtig tussen moderatie en free speech!
hoe vind ik die servers? Staan nergens tussen als ik ze zoek..
Ik ben overgestapt naar Mastodon-belgium en vond die door me opnieuw te registreren via de app. Na een paar keer intikken in de zoekopdracht daar, kwam die er op.
Geen offline meer sinds mijn overstap, dus ik ben een contente mens. Succes!

Lukte bij mij alleen via de app, na aantal keer proberen. Ik ben een echte leek en ik probeer me de naam van de mens te herinneren die de server beheert, hij zal je wel wegwijs kunnen maken… als ik er op kom, dan geef ik je nog een seintje

Ik heb een beetje een probleem met punt 9 van de server regels op mastodon-belgium.be Stelt niet echt gerust als dat je reden was om over te stappen van Twitter. Heb account aangemaakt om dit makkelijk te kunnen aankaarten.
Niet te hard druk over maken, da's een "stok achter de deur in case of emergency" regel. Is vooral om discussies te vermijden genre "Een hoofd afhakken is geen geweld, dat is *kunst* en het is niet aan jullie om mijn mening daarover te betwisten !"
In short: bij betwistingen heeft de admin (ik dus) het laatste woord. Maar niet om de alleenheerser te gaan uithangen, want dan loopt iedereen weg.
Alles is nog vrij nieuw hier. Wet paint enzo.

lijkt me vrij standaard, neen? Als je ooit niet akkoord bent met een call kan je verhuizen.
De instance van @admin lijkt bij Hetzner in Duitsland te draaien. mastodon-belgium.be draait in Zaventem. 't Lijkt er op dat er veel instances bij Hetzner draaien maar op zich verwacht ik daar geen problemen mee.
Moest Hetzner een oopsie hebben zijn er mogelijk wel veel instances geïmpacteerd.

Dankjewel! Jij ook trouwens! mag ik vragen bij welke hostingprovider je instance gehost is? 😀
Ik denk dat bij veel instances ook de hostingkostprijs een grote rol speelt. En Hetzner is ook niet duur qua server hosting. Ik probeer nu de prijs zo laag mogelijk te houden, omdat ik nu voor 100 procent insta voor de kosten hiervan. Maar moesten er meer gebruikers en donaties komen, kan ik zeker is kijken voor alternativen en meer verbeteringen/optimalisaties te doen aan infra kant.

zelfde ervaring als @ChampersBE hier. Draait voorlopig op een simpel VPS’je. Weinig fancy op infrastructuur vlak , maar nu met weinig users gaat dat nog. Als het populairder wordt is het een ander verhaal. Maar dat zal de tijd uitwijzen.

idem, dat zeg je toch ook niet wanneer iemand een account op Instagram of een ander platform maakt? Ik begrijp die fuzz niet goed 🤷♂️
Nog teveel interessante 'tech' accounts op Twitter om het platform zomaar te verlaten wat mij betreft.
